22 , 23 , 24 …. 26 steps – AJATT SS
It’s been quite a while since my last post on AJATT SS. Before I begin, I’d just like to clarify some things. AJATT SS is also for those people who have “no clue” what so ever about the language. I think it’s even better if you start this AJATT SS without any prior knowledge about Japanese. Yes, such things as Kanji may be daunting but after a while, you and the Kanji will be walking together, hand in hand, best of friends!
If you have dwelved into the wonderful world of Japanese already and got the general gist of Hiragana, Katakana, vocabulary and what not, it will still benefit you too. It’s just that I’d probably find AJATT SS much more “wow” if I had no ground knowledge of Japanese, starting from step 1. This is solely just my opinion, others may think otherwise. But you know, it wouldn’t hurt if you start from the very start, if it’s Japanese and fun, why not? (which I can say SilverSpoon is)
SilverSpoon doesn’t restrict you from doing any other Japanese activities, as long as you’re doing something or anything in Japanese, it helps. If you find the daily activities not to your liking and “too easy”, play some games, watch some anime, watch some dramas if that is more to your liking, listen to podcasts and the list goes on! The important factor in this is, “do” the things that you would normally do if you were “fluent” in Japanese. Why wait until you reach fluency to do the things you have always wanted to do? That doesn’t sound like fun. Do it now, it won’t hurt. The important factor is to have fun.
Just so you guys know, I’ve done RTK and over 20k+ reps of Kanji and still find that some of those pesky Kanji’s don’t like me!
Anyways, I better get on with it and talk about what’s been happening with AJATT SS from days 22- 26. I’m currently on day 27.
Nothing has really changed in terms of activities, so this post will be a little “bland” you have been warned^^”
- Shadowing – Shadowing in longer intervals
- Kanji – Add Kanji / write Kanji , do reps
- Videos – Watch a selected type of video but of course you can change it to your liking
- Browsing Japanese sites randomly
Some things that might startle future SilverSpooners or those who are interested in the content of AJATT SS
What has been getting some people confused a d myself as well is, do we have to watch these videos that Khatz has specified? Khatz has kindly answered this question to the SilverSpooners recently. What I took from it is, you don’t have to watch it, as long as you watch or do anything in Japanese that interests you, it’s all good. As I can tell, it’s hard to “satisfy” the interests of everyone with these videos he tells you to watch. I for one am not fond of some^^” I guess this in place for people who have no idea of what to search for when trying to find Japanese content and you know? fair enough.
Other than that, the activities are still the same as what I had mentioned before in my previous post besides starting to browse Japanese sites. I forgot to mention something important. We have not started on Hiragana and Katakana as of yet but I have no problems with both, expect sometimes with ツ(tsu)、シ(shi), ソ (s0), ノ(no) ^^” Mostly if you take classes in Japanese, especially the beginner levels, you will learn Hiragana first, followed by Katakana with some Kanji in between when learning Katakan. This is the norm, Hiragana -> Katakana > Kanji. But with AJATT SS as you can see from what I’ve posted,we start off with Kanji.
That ends it for todays post about AJATT SS. Sorry that there wasn’t much to say as there has been nothing new to talk about as of late.

20k+ reps of Kanji ( ゚ 。 ゚ )
woh! even i add up my total reps of my different decks, and different SRS program/sites
it just counts below 10k!
Hmm..maybe there’s wrong with what i’m doing. What bothers me is the Kanji phase. Since i’ve started AJATT, right now im still on RTK 3. I’m lazy and i’d prefer watching anime/playing games all the time, if that method can add new kanji. whew
Well keep it up, and I guess hearing from AJATT SS subscriber like you is a good idea.
I guess im lucky, by just scanning those twits i landed on your site. 頑張って!
haha yup, around 20k+ or so for sentences too
Maybe do 3-5 minutes of kanji a day. Read up on Timeboxing on the AJATT site, I think it will help you. If you want to play games, do it;) Heck, I would do it all day. I’ve just started reading raw manga, it’s fun! playing games but not so much but definitely a lot of anime. Do remember to do it with no subtitles.
I probably only do like 30 minutes + of reps each day. I use to do hrs and hrs and that tired me out.
hahaha thanks~
not only in kanji but on sentences too? woh that makes AJATT SS more faster than just plain AJATT like what described on the site. how do you do your sentences? i remember khatz mentioned after finishing RTK 1 you can do RTK 3 together with sentences. I’m on RTK 3 but haven’t touched the sentence phase
and oh really you do 30 mins of reps a day? and 3-5 minutes of new kanji a day is what you do in AJATT SS? yes you’re right reading raw manga is fun especially doujins.
hahah no no, the sentences I was doing before AJATT SS came out, I just used what was on the AJATT Site
I never did RTK3 with sentences, I just put w/e sentences I could find lol, which is a bad idea. Only get sentences that you like;)
Yup, around that much. Hmm in AJATT SS, it varies^^” haha I see, I’m more of the shounen jump type stories, love comedy
oh i see you were with AJATT before the SS.
what do you do when adding new kanji?
you create stories right? you mentioned timeboxing, do you timebox that?
what if in a given timebox you haven’t finished making the story for it yet? what will you do?
すみません。it bothers me that my 14 months is taking long for the kanji phase, coz of what im seeing now, im having fun only when watching anime/playing games so i wanna hear what you do so that i can somehow make something out of it to adjust to myself.
haha well I just took what I thought would work^^”
With kanji, 5 kanji a day, maybe 10 the next, etc. I did 100 kanji a day, so^^”
Timeboxing- I think, is more for your reps. I’m not too sure as I don’t know much about it. It’s better off if you read it on the AJATT site about Timeboxing, rather than my explanation.
Haha the thing is, don’t worry too much about being fluent. Just have fun, you playing games, anime, etc are helping your Japanese. Maybe watch some news, download some podcasts, have some Japanese playing 24/7.
Have you finished RTK 1 ? Because I only did RTK 1 and moved onto sentences.
yes im done with RTK 1,
i continued to RTK 3 coz i wanna survive if i happen to land in Okinawa LOL (´∇`)
I see, I thought you would start with sentences after finishing RTK1. I think RTK3 was optional. And sometimes its better to learn the readings with sentences, etc
yeah but i think i need those coz there are kanjis that appear in SD Gundam Wars anyway thanks for your advices, i think im ready now for sentences.
There are many ways to find the readings. Since you did RTK1 already, just find the meaning of the kanji in your SRS, copy and paste it to Rikai chan.
I read manga since it has the furigana and is much easier for me. But I’ve also played games without it by using the method I told you about. But it gets tiring
Np, don’t think I helped much but good luck!
Ok ok now I believe that SS even suited for noobs
Its interesting that you first start with kanji.
Well have teh fun.
ahhahaa=p you should try one dayXD
Yeh it is indeed^^’ mainly that is the last step lol
thanks!
